الكوارث الطبيعية
يستطيع سكان مقاطعة أورانج مواجهة الكوارث الطبيعية على أفضل وجه من خلال الاستعداد المسبق. ورغم أن مناخ مقاطعة أورانج مستقر نسبياً، إلا أن سكانها ليسوا بمنأى عن الكوارث الطبيعية كالحرارة الشديدة والطقس القاسي.
حرارة شديدة
تشهد مقاطعة أورانج موجات حرّ متكررة، قد تكون خطيرة للغاية على الأطفال وكبار السن والمقيمين المصابين بأمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية، أو الذين يتناولون أدوية نفسية أو غيرها. وقد تتسبب موجات الحرّ الشديدة في وقوع وفيات. نتمتع بمزايا وسائل الراحة الحديثة، مثل أجهزة التكييف وموزعات الثلج، ولكن ماذا نفعل عندما تتعطل هذه الخدمات؟
Severe Weather
كغيرها من مناطق البلاد، تشهد مقاطعة أورانج أحيانًا عواصف مطرية، وبردًا، وفيضانات مفاجئة، ورياحًا عاتية، وعواصف رعدية، وبرقًا. وتتسبب الفيضانات المفاجئة في وفيات أكثر من أي خطر آخر مرتبط بالعواصف الرعدية، إذ تتجاوز 140 حالة وفاة سنويًا. وتُعزى نحو 90% من الكوارث التي أعلنها الرئيس في الولايات المتحدة إلى الأحوال الجوية، وتتسبب في حوالي 500 حالة وفاة وخسائر مادية تُقدر بنحو 14 مليار دولار سنويًا.
Drought
Severe drought can increase the risks of other disasters such as a wildfire, landslide, or flash flood. In recent years, temperatures have steadily risen, while the amount of rainfall has decreased. Since California’s water supply is scarce, we all need to do our part to become more efficient in our water use.
Tornadoes
A tornado appears as a rotating, funnel-shaped cloud that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground with whirling winds that can reach 300 miles per hour. Damage paths can be in excess of one mile wide and 50 miles long. Tornadoes do not occur often in Orange County as in other parts of the country, but they do happen.
Earthquakes
Every year California experiences approximately 500 earthquakes that are large enough to be detected and felt by local residents. Since Orange County has a number of seismic faults, earthquakes are almost an expected part of living here. Residents should be prepared by identifying safe places in each room of their homes and taking other precautions, such as securing furniture and checking for gas leaks.
Flooding
Flooding is one of Orange County’s most likely disasters. Flash floods can strike any time with little or no warning turning Orange County streets and freeways can into rivers within seconds. Most flash flooding is caused by heavy rains concentrated over the same area and also from run-off from local hillsides and clogged storm drains.
Landslides
تُعدّ الانهيارات الأرضية، المعروفة أيضاً بالانزلاقات الطينية أو تدفقات الحطام، شائعة الحدوث في مقاطعة أورانج. وتنتج هذه الكوارث عن عوامل متعددة، منها الزلازل والعواصف والحرائق. قد تحدث الانهيارات الأرضية فجأة، وغالباً دون سابق إنذار، لذا فإن أفضل طريقة للاستعداد لها هي متابعة أي تغييرات في محيط منزلك قد تُشير إلى احتمالية حدوث انهيار أرضي.

Pandemics often create social disruption, economic loss, and general hardship, as they tend to be caused by a new virus or a strain of virus that is extremely infectious.
