Emergency Alert: Garden Grove Chemical Incident
UPDATED May 26 @ 7:00 PM: All evacuation orders related to the Garden Grove hazardous materials incident have been lifted.
Unified Command, including Fire, Law Enforcement, EPA, and County Health, has confirmed:
• No chemical leak
• No threat of explosion
• No threat of fire
• No risk to the public

Evacuation Shelters
Effective Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Orange County Sheriff's Department issued an Evacuation Order (Mandatory) for a hazardous materials (vapor) release.
On Friday, May 22, 2026, additional evacuation orders for impacted areas were launched due to changes in the incident.

Hazardous Materials
This incident involves the potential release of hazardous materials into the surrounding community from the GKN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove. The situation remains ongoing as crews continue working to stabilize a failing tank containing methyl methacrylate, a flammable and potentially hazardous chemical.

Orange County's Medical Officer, Dr. G K, and representatives from the federal EPA and the local Air Quality Management District are actively monitoring air quality around the facility. Currently, they have reported no increase in toxins and that all indicators are normal. Official updates will be posted to OCFA's X Account.
